Former England and Arsenal defender Martin Keown believes Wayne Rooney will love the challenge of facing Cambridge in the FA Cup, while claiming some of the foreign players may struggle.

Man United take on the League Two side in the FA Cup fourth round on today after overcoming League One Yeovil Town in the third round earlier in the month. Goals from Ander Herrera and Angel Di Maria, both summer signings from La Liga making their FA Cup debuts, sealed the win for United that day, but Keown is still unconvinced about their suitability for games against lower league sides.

But he thinks England captain Rooney will relish the occasion.

The likes of Wayne Rooney will love it, but I wonder how some of the foreign players will cope,” wrote Keown in a Q&A with The Daily Mail.

Cambridge earned the chance to take on United with a 2-1 win against fellow League Two side Luton Town in the third round. It will be their first appearance in the fourth round for 15 years while Cambridge midfielder and former United player Luke Chadwick will be facing his old side for the first time.

Goals from Robbie Simpson and Ryan Donaldson sealed the win for Richard Money’s side which sees the club beat their best FA Cup performance since the 1999/2000 season.

Louis van Gaal’s United side go into the game off the back of a vital 2-0 win against QPR which kept them in fourth spot in the Premier League table ahead of fifth placed Arsenal who were surprise 2-0 victors away to champions Manchester City.

Only Liverpool and Everton have committed more defensive errors than Man Utd in this season’s Premier League (20)
