Arsene Wenger is adamant that Nacho Monreal will not be leaving Arsenal in January, reports El Confidential. The report from Spain claims that the Athletic Bilbao enquired for the 28-year-old, but Wenger bluntly he won’t be going.

The left-back endured a sticky start to the season, being forced to fill in at centre-back due to a lack of defensive depth in the squad.
But his form has improved in recent weeks and he was key in Arsenal’s 2-0 win at the home of league champions Manchester City on Sunday and according to the Spanish outlet Wenger is not prepared to let the Spaniard leave this month.
The 28-year-old is under contract at the Emirates until 2016 with the club reserving the option to extend his contract for a further season, as claimed by the Spanish report.
The report claims Athletic Bilbao are thought to be interested in Monreal, however Wenger’s insistence that he remains in North London is likely to scupper any potential deal.
In his three seasons with the club Monreal has never made more starts than he has this season, having made 20 so far and a further three off the bench, so it is no surprise that Wenger is keen to see him stay at the club.
Monreal is in contention to start once more this weekend as Arsenal prepare to take on Brighton in the FA Cup on Sunday for a place in the fifth round of the competition.
